How to Create Skin for the Cube>>

Hey, are you hungry for new interesting tutorials? I have one for you, which not so long, perhaps so useful. This tutorial how to how to create the skin for the cube by using image to get the correct sense of space.

So, in the beginning we need to find pictures, what we will use during the tutorial period. Go to Google Images and look up for a good picture of cube or you can feel free to download the cutom, that I made from here: Cube. Open up this picture, it will be the main canvas for experiments. Ok, then we need to find the picture to put it on the cube sides. Open up the second picture and after that create a new layer on the current canvas. Get out the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create square selection about 250×250 pixels and fill it with different color, for example black.

Add two square areas more to make three skins for all of cube sides. Now, select one of the black squares with Select > Load Selection, after that go to the background layer with dragon copy it using Ctrl+C.

Then go to the main canvas and paste copied part image into it using Ctrl+V.

Ok, time to put this part of image on the one of cube sides. Use Edit > Transform > Distort to transform this image as shown on the picture below.

Go back to the canvas with dragon; select another one black square to copy second part of image in the same way.

Ok, go back to our main canvas again and paste this part image into it. Use Edit > Transform > Distort to create second part of the skin for our cube:

Move to dragon canvas one last time and copy the last one part of the future skin.

Bring it to the main canvas and transform it to with Edit > Transform > Distort:

Ok, looks realistic as for me, but not finished yet. Merge three of these sides in one layer and change layer mode to Multiply.

Lastly, you might want to make some clear work between the cube segments. We can do this work using the Eraser Tool with hard round brush. You can see the result on my picture below.

I finished off with this tutorial. We made good cube skin and get the correct sense of space. Please feel free to experiment, get creative and use your own settings.

Interesting Water Text Effect>>

I’m going to share with you about how to make underwater text effect by using some layer styles. Is it interesting for you? If yes, let’s start to read and make!

First of all, find a good photo of underwater. Use Google Images to find the picture.  Open this picture, then select the Horizontal Type Tool to write out something like ‘WATER’ with any color in the middle of canvas. Color is not important in this case.

In the above image I’ve used a font called AG_Cooper, which is sadly a commercial font. Feel free to try a different font. Ok, go on! I would like to find another one water texture where we can demonstrate water text effect. Use Google Images again or feel free to use my picture. Open it and bring to our main canvas. Select the text (Ctrl+ left click on the text layer in layer palette thumbnail).

Then press Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection and clear selected area by pressing Delete.

Remove the selection with Ctrl+D and apply Inner Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Contour, Satin, Color Overlay and Stroke layer styles for current layer.

An Interesting Graffiti Effect>>

Here is one more interesting tutorial how to create an interesting graffiti effect on the wall using Photoshop tools.

So, let’s start! First of all it will be good to find the wall texture. I tried this one. Open up this file and start to stylize the texture. In the beginning use Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation with next presets.

Correct hue, saturation and brightness for current texture. You result should be next:

Ok, move to the next step. This texture will be better with adding a little bit sharpness. Use the Sharpen Tool and a soft round brush about 400px.

Looks better, don’t you think? Now, start with graffiti. Go to Google Images and find some appropriate image (pay your attention that we will use just image, no photos). This one will be good. Open up it and copy to the main canvas with texture. Change layer mode for this picture to Multiply.

You might also want to try stylize it. I have one interesting idea for you. Get started by selecting the Smudge Tool and use one of the standard Photoshop brushes.

Create a couple of long smudges as on my picture below:

After that select the Sharpen Tool to make it sharpen.

This design wouldn’t be complete without some sort of text now, would it? Start by getting out the Horizontal Type Tool and write out some text, in this case I used two lines of text.

The graffiti font which I’ve used above is called Eraser, and you can download it completely for free from here. After you’re all done with the text settings, position it accordingly by using Edit > Transform > Rotate and move it up a little bit.

Looks good, isn’t it? Ok, move to the next step. To create an impression that the text dealt with the stencil. Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create selection as on my picture below:

Then reverse the selected area with Ctrl+Shift I and then get out the Brush Tool and one of the standard Photoshop brushes to create spray spots with black color.

The result should be the next:

Remove the selection with Ctrl+D. We are done for now! Enjoy your own cool graffiti and don’t be afraid to experiment!

Create Hollywood Smile>>

In this easy, step-by-step tutorial I’m going to show you how to replace yellow color of teeth to white on photo and create real ‘Hollywood smile.’

Firstly, start by finding a photo that you can demonstrate the effect to. Try to use Google Images to find a good picture or feel free to use mine. Now open up your photo in Photoshop, you can either keep it at it’s current size of resize it down a little bit. Then select the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create the selection as on my picture below.

Duplicate selected area with Ctrl+J. We will experiment with this copied layer. Apply Image > Adjustments > Levels to change hue and saturation for current layer. Use settings similar to these:

See the difference now:

Ok, looks better, then before, but it will looks better without pink lips outside the teeth, get out the Eraser Tool and a sharp round brush to clear area out of teeth.

To finish off the tutorial, I think, we need to remove purple hue on teeth. Do this by using Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation with next parameters:

As for me, looks better now!

Ok, after that select the Dodge Tool (Brush: 45px, Range: Midtones, Exposure: 50%) and make a little dodge work on the teeth in the mouth corner.

Well, we’re done for the tutorial! I hope you enjoyed it, even just a little bit. Now, you have real ‘Hollywood smile!’

Color Manipulation on the Photo>>

Basically, in this tutorial I’m going to be showing you how to create a photo effect like the one in the below image, it’s pretty much all accomplished by using color curves and color levels, as are most photo effects, right?

Start by finding some appropriate picture to use it in this tutorial. I used a cool hooligan photo. If you want you can download from it here and get to work. Open up the photo and increase contrast with Image > Adjustments > Levels:

Now we have a contrast like this:

Ok, move to the next step. Begin to make color correction on photography. Press on the layers thumbnail ‘Create new fill or new adjustment layer’ button and chose Curves.

After that set up following settings for each color channel:

See the difference now?

After that slightly reduce the contrast. Move to the original layer with photo and apply Image > Adjustments > Levels with such settings as on the picture below.

See the result now:

Next, create a new layer above the curves layer and fill it with green color (#007016). Change layer mode to Overlay.

And the last one thing that we need to do is to bring a little bit of noise to the photo. Create a new one layer and fill it with black color after that apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise:

Now, change layer mode to Color Dodge and you will see the final result.

Creating Drawing Effect on the Photo>>

I tried to experiment with photo and mix it with black lines to simulate drawing. Would you know how to make it? Ok, then read this tutorial.

Let’s start by finding the picture of beautiful girl with hairdressing. I went to Google Images and looked up the picture, you can feel free to download my picture from here. Open up the picture and desaturate it in the beginning with Image > Adjustments > Desaturate or press Ctrl+Shift+U.

After that increase the contrast with Image > Adjustments > Levels:

See the difference now?

Move to the next step. Create a new layer and fill it with white color. After that change layer opacity for this layer to 30%. Then select the Eraser Tool and a soft round brush to make a little clear work on the face area.

Merge two of these layers in one and start to make drawing effect. Get out the Pen Tool (you need to make sure that you’re working with Paths instead of Shape Layers). Draw out your line using paths:

After that select the Brush Tool and set up with the following settings and set foreground color as black:

Create new layer and then right-click and select Stroke Path.

A little dialog box will appear as in the screenshot. Choose Brush and make sure there is a tick next to Simulate Pressure. This is important as it will give your curve tapered ends which will make it rock!

The picture use to look as mine:

Now the line is hardly noticeable, but don’t worry about. Next right click again and select Delete Path. Try to make more lines in the same way to outline the body and hair contours.

Now, move to the background layer with woman’s photo and select the Brush Tool (use soft brush about 100 px and set brush opacity to 30% up). Sketched the silhouette with white color a little bit.

After that use the Sharpen Tool to make the contours more distinct.

I finished off with this tutorial by merging all of my layers together. Please feel free to experiment, get creative, use your own settings. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Recreating Solar Eclipse in Space>>

Here is one more tutorial about creating space landscape. It is not so difficult but very useful. I’ll teach you how to recreate solar eclipse in space.

So, let’s begin to recreate it! Set foreground color as #500000 and background color as black. After that apply Filter > Render > Clouds to our canvas.

To change the background color at the bottom of the picture apply Quick Mask Mode with gradient as below:

Then go back to Standard Mode. Now we have some selected area.

Change color of selected area with Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation with similar settings to these:

See the difference now?

Ok, move further. Remove the selection with Select > Deselect, after that create a new layer and fill it with black color. Apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise to this layer.

Change layer style to screen and use Image > Adjustment > Levels with next presets:

Now we have picture as below:

Ok, now select the Eraser Tool and a soft round brush and make a little clear work to get the result as on my picture below.

Time to recreate the solar eclipse. In the beginning try to find some appropriate texture of magma what we will use for the sun recreating. Feel free to use your own textures also. Open up this picture and copy to our main canvas.

Then get out the Elliptical Marquee Tool to create round selection as shown on the picture below. Invert selection with Ctrl+Shift+I and use Delete to clear selected area.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and duplicate current layer using Ctrl+J. Ok, move to original lower layer and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these:

Your result should be next:

Ok, apply Color Overlay layer style to this layer.

Use the Smudge Tool to create sunlight beams.

Ok, now move to copied upper layer again and start to process it. In the beginning select it with Select > Load Selection and after that apply Filter > Distort > Spherize. Use next parameters for this filter.

Remove the selection. See the result below.

Then apply Inner Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Color Overlay layer styles to this layer.

Looks better than before, don’t you think? Move to the next step. Create a new layer and use the Elliptical Marquee Tool to create round selection, fill it with black color.

Deselect this layer with Ctrl+D and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with next presets:

Your image should look as mine:

Ok, and the last one step that you need to do is to make optical lens flare. For this effect create a new one layer and will it with black color. Change layer mode for this layer to Screen and apply Filter > Render > Lens Flare:

Looks cool as for me!

Stylish Icons for Website or Multimedia Presentation>>

This useful Photoshop Tutorial about how to make stylish icons what you can apply in your website design or use in multimedia presentation.

So, let’s start! In the beginning create a new file about 500×300 pixels and fill it with white color. Now, proceed directly to creating the icon. Create a new layer, then select the Ellipse Tool to make the round shape as you can see on my picture below.

After that apply following Blending Options: Gradient Overlay and Stroke.

Now we have something like this:

Not really looks like icon is not it? Don’t worry, we process the tutorial. Now, use the Elliptical Marquee Tool to make the selection what you can see on my screenshot below, then create a new layer and fill the selection with dark blue (#1c2133) to transparent gradient.

Ok, now select our round shape icon (Ctrl+Left click on the layer thumbnail in layers palette) and invert the selection with Ctrl+Shift+I. clear selected area by pressing Delete button.

Deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and move to the next step of the tutorial. Use the Ellipse Tool again to make a new one round shape with color of #5ebf1a. Be attentively that second one round shape should be a little bit less then the main shape.

Then apply such layer styles as Inner Glow and Stroke to this shape layer.

But we are not finished the icon yet! Go on! Rasterize this shape with Layer > Rasterize > Shape. Then get out the Elliptical Marquee Tool to make the similar selection as was before in the beginning of this tutorial, then use the Dodge Tool (Brush: 100 px, Range: Midtones, Exposure: 20%) to make the bottom part of green shape a little lighter.

After that invert the selection with Ctrl+Shift+I and change Dodge Tool Range from Midtones to Highlights and continue to work.

Ok, after that revert the selection back and now use the Burn Tool (Brush: 100px, Range : Midtones, Exposure: 30%) to add the contrast to the button.

Ok, we are almost done! Remove the selection with Ctrl+D and move to the next step. I would like to bring some ornament to the green shape. Select the Custom Shape Tool and use one of the standard Photoshop shapes from the gallery. I tried to use this one:

It will look better if we apply some Blending Option such as Drop Shadow

The result should be the same as mine:

Ok, now merge all of layers of the icon in one and apply Edit > Transform > Distort:

After that duplicate this layer using Ctrl+J and move the lower original layer as in my picture below:

Use the Color Overlay layer style for this layer.

See the difference now?

It remains to add a shadow at the bottom and our icon will be ready. Ok, move to the background layer and create a new layer above. Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool to create the selection as on my picture below and fill it with black color.

Deselect this layer with Select > Deselect and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these:

Then apply another one Filter > Blur > Motion Blur.

The result should be the next:

Ok, we are done for now! Also I made a couple of icons more. Try to experiment and the result will be better that ever!

How to Create a Nice 3D Auto>>

This tutorial will be all about using the Brush Tool and about knowing how and where to place lights, shadows and reflections. For creating this piece you will also need a photo of a car for reference. Let’s have a go!

Final Image Preview

Step 1

First open the reference image in Photoshop.

Step 2

Now create a new layer on top of the image. Select the color #23262a, then using the brush simply fill the body of the car with the selected color.

Step 3

Use the Dodge Tool (O) set to Midtones with Exposure set to 11% – 20% and add some light over the coachwork.

Step 4

Same as you did in Step 3, select the Burn Tool (O) with Exposure set to 9% – 10%, and add some shadows over the body. As you can see, the car image is not visible anymore, as we will just look at it from time to time to know where each part goes.

Step 5

Next you need to make the car image visible again. Using the Pen Tool (P) set to Path, create a path surrounding the car and then erase the excess brush area. Now create more paths around the windshields, lights, tires, grid and press Delete to create the shape of these parts.

Step 6

Next, use the Burn and Dodge Tools to add some more shadows and lights on the coachwork.

Step 7

Next you need to create a new layer and move it below the “coachwork” layer. Now make selections of the windshields and grid and fill them with black.

Step 8

Create a new layer and use the Pen Tool (P) to create a path like below, then stroke it using a 2 px black brush. Repeat the step, but this time make a white stroke. In the end, lower the Opacity of both strokes.

Step 9

You need to learn how to create smooth and skinny strokes that you will use very often for creating this car. First, create a new layer above all the layers. Use the Pen Tool (P) to make simple paths that will simulate the shape and curve of your glossy lights. Then you simply need to stroke these paths with black or white, decrease the Opacity and maybe erase the edges a little and you are done.

Note: you will notice that in this tutorial, you will have to use this technique fairly often so rather than explain this repeatedly, you will be shown where this technique has been used.

Step 10

Create a new layer above all layers and make a selection like below using the Pen Tool (P). Then use the Brush Tool (B) to draw in the selection like below. Use a white brush for lights and #070e18 to define the shape of the object.

Step 11

Create a new layer and place it below the “coachwork” layer, but above the “black” layer that you created in Step 7. Fill the layer with #343a46.

Step 12

In this step, create the reflection on the windows. Use the Pen Tool (P) and create a path similar to the one below. Transform the path into a selection (set feather to 0.3). Now using Dodge Tool (O) set to Midtones and Exposure 14% – 20%, draw some clouds over the shape.

Step 13

Set the Dodge Tool (O) to Highlights and add some more reflection.

Step 14

Press Command + Shift + I to invert the selection. Use the Burn Tool (B) with the Midtones and Exposure set to 13% to darken the bottom part of the window.

Step 15

Select the Dodge Tool (O) set to Midtones and Exposure 13% again and add some lights on the lower part of the window.

Step 16

Create a new layer over the “coachwork” layer and make a selection like below using the Pen Tool (P). Then draw on the selection with this color #13161b.

Step 17

Use the Dodge Tool (O) set to Midtones and Exposure 23% to add some light.

Step 18

Make another layer and a selection inside it, as shown below. Now fill the layer with the same color as before #13161b, then use the Dodge Tool (O) to add some light.

Step 19

Create a new layer and use the Pen Tool (P) to create a selection like below. Fill the layer with #2f3438. Next, use the Burn and Dodge Tools to add shadows and lights.

Step 20

Continue adding some more shadow using the Burn Tool.

Step 21

In this step, create the headlights using the same technique used for the side window.

Step 22

Repeat Step 21 for the other headlight.

Step 23

In this step, we’ll create the two sprinkler heads. Creating these two objects is pretty simple. What you need to do is create two different layers for each. Also, use the brush to create 2 spots, as shown below. With the Dodge Tool (O) add some lights over them, as shown below as well.

Step 24

Create two shapes on the roof of the car for detail. First create a new layer above the “coachwork.” Make a selection like below and fill them with #4d545c.

To finalize these shapes use the Dodge Tool (O) to add some lights and gloss on them, then use the stroke technique for more depth. The stroke effect does not only help the eye to make a difference between the car parts, but it also gives a really nice glossy look.

Step 25

It is time to create the windshield. Create a new layer above the “coachwork” layer. Make a selection like below and fill the layer with #4f5561.

Step 26

Adding lights, gloss and shadow on the windshield is done using the same tools used so far – the Dodge Tool and Burn Tool.

Using the Pen Tool (P), you need to create a path like below, then transform the path into a selection. Invert the selection and Use the Burn Tool (O) to darken the selection area. Now invert the selection again and this time use the Dodge Tool (O) to add some lights and gloss over the windshield.

Step 27

The final result for the windshield, after applying some more reflections, lights, and gloss, is shown below.

Step 28

It’s time to create the mirrors. First of all, create a new layer above the “coachwork” layer. You can create the same shape for the mirror, but if you look below you’ll see a more interesting shape that you can give to your mirror. Use the Pen Tool (P) to create this selection and fill it with #171a1f.

Step 29

Creating the depth and 3D shape of this mirror is done only with shadows and lights. The tools used are the Burn Tool and Dodge Tool.

Step 30

Use the same technique as shown in Step 29 to create the other mirror.

Step 31

Now go back to the side windows, as you need to create a separator over them. Create a new layer and make a selection like below. Fill this selection with #c5ced7, then make another selection like below and fill it with black.

Step 32

Add some more details: strokes, lights, gloss and shadows.

Step 33

You need to create the two grid parts of the car. Create a new layer, make the below shape, and fill it with black. These two are just the space where the grid will be placed.

Step 34

Time to create the Grid. Make a new layer, and in this layer create a black shape. Then use the Pen Tool (P) to make a straight line like below, and stroke the line with 2 px and #2b2b2b. In the end, multiply that stroke as many times as it is necessary until you cover all the black shape with these lines. Finally, place the grid behind the “coachwork.”

Step 35

Creating the tires is quite simple because again you will use only the Brush Tool (B).

Create a new layer and place it below the “coachwork” layer. Make a selection like below and fill it with black.

Step 36

Use only three colors to create the details of the tire.

Step 37

You can create the other tire using the same technique or we can make things simpler. To do this, duplicate the other “tire” layer, move in place, and also change the perspective of the tire a little.

Step 38

It is time to create two more headlights. First, create a new layer on top of all the other layers and make a selection like below. Fill the selection with #404348.

Step 39

Now use two colors (#ffb14f and #feffed) to construct the headlight. Use the Dodge Tool and Burn Tool for more depth.

Step 40

Create the other headlight the same way you created the first one.

Conclusion

In the end, you can create a simple background and work on the Curves to add more detail. You can view the final image below or view a larger version here.

Create an Amazing Photo Strip in Photoshop>>

In this tutorial, it will show you how to build an amazing photo strip. It is mainly made by warp tool. After finished this tutorial, you will be able build a photo strip with your own photos or artwork. Try this fantastic feature, very nice!..

1. Create a Strip (Vector Shapes)

First, create a strip with the Pen tool (either in Photoshop or Illustrator). We will use these shapes as a guideline and for masking purposes.

2. Photo Stack

Choose 3 photos of your choice and stack them together.

3. Warping (Photoshop Warp Tool)

Adjust the layer opacity to 40 or 50% so you can see the guideline underneath. Go to Edit > Transform > Warp. Now you should see a grid and 4 anchor points in the corner. To bending the image, simply drag the anchor points, direction points, or grid lines.

Repeat this step for the rest of the strip. Since this step is relatively simple and repeatitive, I’m not going to get into the details. Here are the screenshots of the steps:

4. Masking

Organize the layers into groups (ie. strip 1, 2, 3, 4).

Load selection from the shapes you created in step 1 and add a layer mask for each group (so you get a perfect smooth curve).

5. Shadows

In masked group 1, create a new layer above the strip. Use the Gradient tool and drag from the top to bottom to create a black gradient.

Repeat this step for the other strips.

6. Highlights

To make highlighted and glossy areas: create a round glowing circle, compress it, and rotate it in the angle according to your strip’s direction.

7. Line Strokes

To make line strokes: load a selection of the mask, create a new layer, fill it with black, shift the selection to the left by 1 or 2 pixels, delete the selected area by pressing the Delete key.

8. Final Touches

To make the image look more interesting, desaturated the two strips in the back.
